Don’t Be Surprised!
Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.
1 John 3:13-14 (HCSB)
Note from Kip…
We shouldn’t be shocked if the world doesn’t love us. We are after all in a fierce battle.
Our side standing for God’s love and righteousness. Prevayers of faith, hope and kindness.
The world pushing self, greed, division, carnality.
The two sides of this battle for hearts and minds rages on day after day. It’s totally understandable that those vested in the world message will at minimum have distain for those who stand with God.
Christ has liberated us to be free. Stand firm then and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery. Take note! I, Paul, tell you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all.
Galatians 5:1-2 (HCSB)
Paul isn’t saying circumcision itself is ill advised. Here the practitioners of Judaism were seeing their world being turned upside down. The essence of their faith was nested in works and following a strict array of rules and rituals. Paul himself was circumcised. After all before his encounter with Jesus, Paul considered himself a Pharisee among Pharisees.
The thing he was driving at was putting your faith in the things that are counter to the teachings of Jesus are going to put you in opposition to Christ as well!
For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:7-8 (HCSB)
The battle lines are drawn between embracing of the flesh and the spirit. When we follow the things of the flesh we find ourselves in union with the world and in opposition to God. When we allow our spirit to abide in God’s Spirit, we have unity with our Lord and as a result the world is now opposed to us and the things the Spirit manifests in us.
For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
Ephesians 6:12 (HCSB)
If you’ve joined forces with God, you right now are in that battle. It’s not against the lost souls around us, it is a spiritual battle taking place right, this very moment. The forces of God are winning and the enemy is in panic.
You should fully expect that the world will hate you for your allegiance to Christ. Satan thought he had won when Jesus hung on the Cross giving his last breath for our sins. What Satan saw was the the Son of God falling prey to his evil and hate.
Often I’ve thought about what Satan may have felt as what he perceived as his ultimate victory against God, suddenly transformed into the very thing that he feared most. The restoration of Christ’s relationship with His Creation as he crushed sin under His feet, and triumphed over death.
That moment when Satan realized he had been play by the the Master. You think he wasn’t (isn’t) furious? Absolutely he is. An those who align themselves with Satan are as well. They can’t stand the fact that Jesus threw down the gauntlet and established His kingdom in the hearts and souls of humanity.
Now in desperation they are doing everything they can to lash out at the light. That light that is in you, me and every believer.
Yes, the world hates us. Don’t be deceived by what appears to be friendly camaraderie. Satan is desperately trying to find a way he can win.
But greater is He that is in you, than he would is in the world!
